A warden on the Calf of Man had to be evacuated by helicopter after falling and injuring his leg on Wednesday.

He’d fallen from a ladder inside the middle lighthouse whilst conducting a survey and sustained a suspected broken ankle.

Due to the severe weather being experienced the only way for emergency services to reach the man was by Coastguard helicopter.

The helicopter, which was flown in from Caernarfon, used Rowany Golf Club in Port Erin to pick up Coastguard personnel.

They were then flown to the Calf where they used rope rescue techniques to extract the man and recover him to the helicopter.

He was then taken to Noble's Hospital.
