Island set for Royal visit

by Joanne Clague

Island set for Royal visit - picture Peel Cathedral and the prison are on the agenda for tomorrow's Royal visit.

The Princess Royal has a busy programme, including a visit to the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture headquarters in St John's. Princess Anne, a keen equestrian who was the first member of the Royal family to compete in the Olympic Games, will also officially open the Ballavartyn equestrian centre in Santon.

A popular Royal, she is renowned for her charitable work and carries out hundreds of engagements and public appearances per year. She is patron of more than 200 organisations and tomorrow will visit Peel Cathedral to find out more about its fund raising campaign. She will also visit the prison at Jurby.

The Princess Royal has visited the Isle of Man several times. In 2008, she attended the annual Tynwald ceremony in St John's and officially opened the new Hospice. In 2005, she was here to name the Manx Sailing for the Disabled's new yacht, Pride in Mann II.
