The Milntown Estate is open in all its Glory

by isleofman.com 12th May 2017

Spring has most definitely sprung and the gardens are well and truly alive and blooming here at the Milntown Estate in Lezayre – we can’t think of a better place to spend an afternoon.

The former Estate of the Christian family, and in more recent times Sir Clive Edwards, is open in all its glory and ready to welcome visitors.

At the heart of Milntown is the magnificent mansion. A spectacular sight to be greeted with upon arrival. Step inside and our superb team of volunteers will guide you around its beautifully elegant rooms and detail the powerful Christian dynasty who occupied Milntown for 500 years, and the vision of Sir Clive Edwards, who left the Estate in trust for the benefit of the Manx people.  The volunteers will enhance your visit with their passion for and knowledge of the house and the history of the Estate, whilst conveying a sense of mystery and intrigue through stories of the Milntown ghosts…

Guided house tours take place at 2.30pm each Wednesday and Saturday (excluding TT and MGP weeks) and last approximately an hour and a quarter.  Tours cost ?7 per person and can be booked in advance by phoning 812321 or on the day in the cafe if there is space. Group bookings (minimum 15 people) can be arranged on other days. New for this season we have unveiled the refurbished library in the style of Deemster John Christian (1776 –1852).

The 15 acres of beautiful gardens and woodland are now open every day (except Tuesdays) all year round (excluding TT and MGP weeks). First time visitors to Milntown will find it has something for all ages - children can run free and explore the many wonders hidden in our gardens (watch out for the interesting characters lurking in the woodlands…), feed the ducks on the mill pond and take part in seasonal treasure hunts. Plant enthusiasts can watch the gardens transform throughout the seasons and chat with our dedicated and experienced gardeners who are always willing to share their expertise.

Entrance to the gardens costs ?3.50 per adult, ?3.00 for senior citizens and ?1 per child. Annual season tickets are available for ?14 per person. With the gardens open all year round, season ticket holders are now getting even better value.

The cafe is open daily (except Tuesdays) and offers breakfasts, lunches and tempting afternoon teas and treats all year round. With a selection of light bites, tasty mains and a children’s menu, the cafe caters for all. Check the specials boards for alternative options, and seasonal items using the delicious produce from our kitchen gardens. You can make a reservation by calling 818091.

The cafe and the Estate are also available for private event hire.  With stunning surroundings and first class facilities, Milntown makes the ideal venue for your special day.
