Peel marina dredging surfaces in Tynwald

by isleofman.com 21st April 2015

Contaminated silt from Peel harbour will be on the agenda again when Tynwald sits later today.
After a row over the dumping of dredged material at Poortown last week, Onchan MHK David Quirk will quiz Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne over the affair.
In total, today’s sitting will see 17 questions for oral answer and another 32 for written reply – along with 22 items on the main order paper.
Items for members to discuss include new charges at the Sulby Claddagh campsite, and statements from Social Policy and Children’s Committee chair Juan Watterson and Road Transport Licensing Committee chairman Tim Crookall.
In questions, LibVan MHKs Kate Beecroft and Peter Karran have queries about pensions, child benefit, and healthcare – with Mr Karran asking whether companies that need work permits for staff should be forced to pay a living wage.
North Douglas MHK John Houghton will ask about foster carers, and whether there are problems providing enough support for fostered children.
And in the last item due to be debated, West Douglas MHK Chris Thomas will ask the government to publish a report into the ageing population and formulate a strategy to deal with it findings.
You can hear live coverage of today’s Tynwald sitting on Manx Radio’s AM1368 service, online at manxradio.com and through mobile apps from 10.30 this morning.
