Council fired up for November 5th

Douglas Borough Council’s public fireworks display will be on Tuesday November 5th.

Sponsored by Celton Manx and with support from 3FM the event starts at 6.30pm when judging, led by the Mayor of Douglas Councillor Carol Malarkey,  takes place in the Best Guy competition and prizes of ?100, ?50 and ?25 awarded for first, second and third places respectively.

At 6.45pm the bonfire will be lit by the Mayor and at 7pm a spectacular fireworks display will be fired to music from Douglas beach in the vicinity of the war memorial. 

Douglas Borough Council leader Councillor David Christian said: ‘The fireworks display is one of the Council’s most eagerly anticipated community events. It is a truly memorable and spectacular occasion thanks to generous sponsorship from Celton Manx, the support of 3FM and the hard work of many of the Council’s staff and officers whose efforts ensure spectators can be in a safe and secure environment to enjoy what will undoubtedly be a fantastic event.’

Entries for the Best Guy competition must be submitted between 6 and 6.25pm at the staged area in the vicinity of the war memorial where catering outlets will also be located.

The promenade cycle way will be suspended between the northernmost end of the Marine Gardens on Harris Promenade and a point opposite Castlemona Avenue from 8am on Tuesday November 5th until 9am on Wednesday November 6th.

Parking will be suspended from 3pm until 8pm on Harris Promenade east side where traffic will be restricted to a single lane (southbound) between Broadway and a point opposite the northernmost end of the Marine Gardens from 6 to 8pm.  

In the interests of safety spectators are requested not to bring pets or their own fireworks, including sparklers, onto the site.
