Put your skills to the test in Adventure Team Challenge

by isleofman.com 22nd August 2013

Do you and your colleagues pride yourself on your ability to work as a team? Or are you looking for an event to help improve communication skills and how you work under pressure? Well, if you answered yes to either of the above questions The Children’s Centre is offering the perfect event for your team. The Adventure Team Challenge puts teams of five to the test both mentally and physically in a series of adrenaline filled ‘stages'. You will have to run and cycle - and you will definitely get wet! But apart from that the rest of the challenge will remain a mystery until teams take to the start line at 8.30am on October 5. Even the start location is kept secret until the big day, but organisers expect the challenge to be completed by around 4.30pm.

Mark Eastham, Fundraising Co-ordinator at The Children’s Centre, said:

“The Adventure Team Challenge is now in its 11th year and in that time it has become the Island’s leading team development event. Each of the thrilling challenges, as well as being great fun, are designed to generate real business benefits that participants can take back to the work place including team work, communication skills, strategic capability, flexibility, determination, the ability to perform under pressure and to see things through to completion. Last year we had an urban focus for the challenges, but this year the teams will be heading for adventures in the countryside – however, as always, we will be keeping the exact details secret until the big day.”

In previous years teams have had to kayak across lakes, run through forests, and tackle tough uphill trails on mountain bikes. Last year teams had to build fully functional water rockets and try their hand at circus skills! All that organisers will give away this year is that there will be more exciting events for the 2013 competition. Past winners of the Adventure Team Challenge include investment firm Capital International, software developer PDMS, power supplier the MEA and chartered accountants and business advisers Baker Tilly. A team from property developers Dandara – calling themselves Dandara Dynamite – won the 2012 event. Entry is for teams of five and costs ?600.

Discounts are on offer for an organisation or business which puts two or more teams into the event. All funds raised go to The Children’s Centre’s charitable projects Out2Play, Mobex, Child Contact Centre and Philip Christian Centre. Since it began the Adventure Team Challenge has raised more than ?110,000 for these projects.
