Shortage of marshals affects practice - picture

The first practice session of the Festival of Motorcycling had to be cut short because there were not enough marshals to patrol the TT course.

Newcomers were able to get their first taste of the mountain circuit yesterday (Saturday) evening but sessions for the Senior, Junior, F1/F2, 350 and 500 classes had to be cancelled.

Some of the 500-plus marshals required for the races were unable to get to the island in time, because a medical emergency on the seacat had required it to be sailed back to Douglas, meaning lengthy knock-on delays.

Roads are due to close tomorrow (Monday) evening at 6pm for the next practice session.

The TT Marshals Association has appealed for more people to come forward to marshal. Watch our interview with the chairman at http://www.manx.net/tv/mt-tv/watch/66018/get-close-to-road-racing-action
