Police are asking motorists to take extra care this weekend as a temporary 30mph speed limit comes in to force tomorrow morning (Friday) as part of the traffic Management plan for the Mannifest music festival at Glen Lough.
Inspector Will Campbell said:
"As last year, the public entrance for the festival is situated on the Ballahutchin about 200 yards Douglas side of the Main Glen Lough site. The whole of the ballahutchin will be 30mph for the event for road safety purposes. Speed enforcement will be conducted by members of the Road Policing Unit. Please take extra care and be prepared for vehicles entering or exiting the new entrance. Please bear in mind there will be an increase in pedestrians on, or crossing, the ballahutchin particularly at the end of the evenings.
There is also a clearway in force with no parking allowed on the main road.
Police officers will be in attendance at the festival again this year having worked closely with the event organisers and other agencies.
Inspector Will Campbell said:
"The vast majority of people attending Mannifest are there to enjoy themselves and in policing terms the previous events have been relatively incident free. We did have few arrests last year for drink driving and I would urge anyone taking a vehicle, who wishes to drink, to make use of the taxi service that will be available. Mannifest is a family event and the organisers have made it clear that disorderly behaviour will result in persons being removed from the festival and that drug taking will not be tolerated. Police drug detection dogs will be operating throughout the site."
