A local travel agency has taken over the Homestay scheme from the Manx Government.
From today, Homestay will be operated by Regency Travel. The Department of Economic Development says Regency will 'greatly enhance' a scheme that 17 per cent of the TT festival's 40,000 visitors rely on to find somewhere to stay during the busiest time of the year for the Island.
DED member Laurence Skelly MHK said: 'As well as dealing with all the usual enquiries and inspections previously carried out by the department, they can offer online booking and will help 'match' potential guests to host families. It also frees up time for staff in the tourism team to further focus on delivering visitors to the Isle of Man all year round.'
All available Homestay accommodation is now listed on Regency's www.iomttbreaks.com website. This will become the only website to offer officially registered Homestay accommodation. Homestay can be offered only during the TT and MGP festival periods. Last year, more than 700 properties registered with the government.
