Former commissioners’ clerk Mike Kewley (pictured) and retired civil servant Mark Shimmin have been recognised in the Queen’s New Year Honours List.
Mr Kewley has been awarded the BEM (British Empire Medal) to mark more than 40 years’ service to Port Erin and the community. One of his achievements was to secure sheltered housing provision for the elderly in the village.
Mr Shimmin, who retired as the Manx Government’s Chief Financial Officer in April 2013, has received the MBE. His career in the civil service spanned 30 years. A government spokesman said Mr Shimmin had ‘worked tirelessly’ to promote the Isle of Man on the international stage.
