On 25th February 2012 Ramsey Rotary Club will be joining 107 other Rotary Clubs in 23 countries around the world in an attempt to set a new world record.
Rotary Swimarathon aims to get as many Rotary Clubs or organisations to hold a mini “RotarySwimarathon” between 1200 – 1300 hours (GMT) on 25th February and help to break a world record for the most number of people swimming at the same time around the world.
The Club is aiming to get as many people as possible to swim just 100 metres [4 lengths of the pool] non-stop within that hour at the Northern Swimming Pool in Ramsey. Participants will be asked to make a nominal minimum donation of £2 [£1 for under 16’s] and, if they can, to raise sponsorship to support the End Polio Now campaign.
Ramsey Rotary President Peter Whiteway said “Ramsey Rotary is joining other Rotary Clubs around the world to smash a world record. This is a great opportunity for the campaign to eradicate polio, stay fit and take part in getting Rotary into the World Record Book. Anyone who can swim 100 metres is welcome to take part, but we will need under 16’s to obtain parental consent so that we can get our world record attempt verified.”
