This week the Isle of Man Archery Club staged the annual Isle of Man Indoor Target Championships with archers gearing up or this over the last few weeks it saw four personal best being achieved and three archers managed to retain their titles.
With a few archers missing due to injury, illness and other commitments this still didn’t perpetrate from a fantastic show firstly in the gents recurve last years champion Tony Hartley pushed out a twenty five point lead in the first dozen arrows this was a lead that he wouldn’t relent the main battle was or the runners up spot between Marcus Boyd, Dave Moore and Billy Lightfoot all level on points at this stage then Boyd edged out a five point lead over Moore and Lightfoot was forced to retire due to a injury, this left Hartley to retain his title with Boyd picking up the second spot and Moore gets the last step on the podium.
In the gents compound championship was a extremely close affair between last years champion Peter Mumford and Colin Moore with it all level at the halfway point with only the last dozen to shoot Mumford managed to edge out a two point lead with Moore matching Mumford arrow by arrow this was just a task to far and Mumford retains his title with a battling Moore picking up the runners up spot by only three points.
A very close battle in the ladies compound between last years champion Aalin George and Sarah Rigby who had only got back to the island hours before the competition with her new bow which was only setup on Friday and this would be it’s first outing so by the half way stage George edged out a six point lead Rigby started to edge closer and closer after each end but the gap was just to far and George retains her title by two points from Rigby and Joy Gough picks up the third step of the podium.
Ladies recurve battle saw Barbara Harris put in a storming start to put a lead in that she just wouldn’t relent from Karen Lott and in the junior category the Gents saw Rhys Moore, Adam Wright and Bradley Layton do battle with Moore edging out a lead in the first half that he would retain to the end to become the junior gents champ from Wright who picks up the runners up spot and Layton takes the third step on the podium and in the junior ladies Charlotte Harris put in a great performance that would give the this years title for there to be a mother and daughter champions this year.
