Three Isle of Man Health Professionals will be representing Rotary District 1280 as part of a Group Study Exchange Team travelling to the United States in May this year. Dr Sarah Blaney a Specialist Registrar in Geriatric Medicine at Nobles Hospital who was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Ramsey, Karen Skinner a Theatre Sister at Nobles Hospital sponsored by the Rotary Club of Douglas and Victoria Watterson a Staff Nurse at IOM Hospice sponsored by the Rotary Club of Rushen and Western Mann, are joined by Louise Dowle a Nutrition Specialist Nurse at Bolton Hospital in being accepted onto the Rotary Foundation’s Group Study Exchange (GSE) program.

The programme is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for businesspeople and professionals between the ages of 25 and 40 who are in the early stages of their careers. The program provides travel grants for teams to exchange visits in paired areas of different countries. For four to six weeks, team members experience the host country's culture and institutions, observe how their vocations are practiced abroad, develop personal and professional relationships, and exchange ideas.

The Group is being Lead by Past President Tony Beckett of the Rotary Club of Irlam and will travel to Rotary District 7150 in New York State in May 2011. They will spend four weeks hosted by Rotary Clubs in District 7150, visiting hospitals and clinics and making presentations to Rotary Clubs throughout New York State about their careers and their home lives in the Isle of Man. A GSE Team from District 7150 New York State will visit the Island in September this year to complete the exchange.

On Tuesday 19th April the Team gave the presentation they will use in New York State a test run at the Rotary Club of Ramsey receiving compliments on their professionalism and the very good light in which their talk presented the Isle of Man and Rotary District 1280.
