Updated at 5:15pm - Wintry showers will continue to affect the island this evening & tonight, turning prolonged and heavy at times, before gradually becoming more isolated later in the night, as some clearer spells develop bringing the risk of ice. The strong north-westerly wind will ease slightly later in the night with temperatures generally falling to around 3°C, but close to freezing over the hills.

Friday

Much of the day will be dry with some bright or sunny spells possible in the morning before the cloud thickens and rain moves in from later afternoon, continuing at times overnight. The mainly moderate west to northwest wind will back to the south or southwest during the day and become strong by evening with a maximum temperature of 7°C.

Saturday

Wet and windy with outbreaks of rain at times and a strong to gale force south to southwest wind which will ease slightly later in the day. Temperatures reaching up to 9 or 10°C at best.

Sunday

Cloudy with outbreaks of rain developing during the morning, turning heavy for a time before clearing later. Breezy with a strong south to south-westerly wind and top temperature of 10°C.

Monday

Dry at first with bright or perhaps sunny spells. but with scattered showers developing, perhaps merging into some longer spells of rain at times and turning heavy. The strong southwest wind will gradually ease during the day with highest temperature of 8°C.

Deep low in the North Sea tracking eastwards, as a ridge of high pressure starts to build across the Irish Sea from the west.

Wind

West or northwest mainly force 6 or 7, but still occasionally gale 8 in places at first. Gradually decreasing 5 or 6 later tonight, before backing west 4 or 5 Friday morning. Than continuing to back south or southwest Friday afternoon.

State of Sea

Moderate or rough occasionally very rough in the south of the area at first. Becoming mainly moderate later tonight, then slight or moderate Friday morning.

Weather

Prolonged and often heavy showers, becoming isolated later tonight. Then mainly fair for a time before rain spreads in from the west Friday afternoon.

Good, becoming moderate or poor at times in showers or rain.
